COVID 19 – is it an environmental health issue?

Department of Occupational Safety & Health Malaysia (DOSH) acknowledges COVID as environmental issue and were more concern in prevention and control measures to be taken in workplaces. DOSH enforces on the Occupational Safety & Health Act 1994 (OSHA 1994) where COVID is identified as an Occupational Disease (exposure related) and assists employers on prevention mechanism to curb the disease. Occupational Safety & Health Master Plan (OSHMP) 2025 is established and DOSH main focus on the upcoming 5 years is specified. Occupational Diseases & Poisoning for year 2020 and the latest COVID statistics is presented as well. Thousands of workplaces related covid clusters were identified and noted to have serious difficultly in maintaining a good ventilation system to prevent the spread of COVID. DOSH together with Ministry of Health Malaysia (KKM) and National Security Council of Malaysia (MKN) has developed a simple guide to be followed at hospitals, clinics, covid assessments centers, all type of workplaces and residentials.
